The Ghost in the Chair

Have you ever stared at a chair
and felt with dread that a ghost was there?
Remember that
It's just a person's spirit
Sitting where it had once sat.
Ghosts are just like me and you.
They can feel afraid,
lonely,
and can feel blue.
A ghost is like the reflection in the mirror,
only a little more transparent, clear.
Spirits are humans without flesh or bone,
looking for a home,
trying to avoid being alone.
From a ghost you should not run or hide.
For you, too, will soon be on the other side,
watching in wonder while people stare
as they ponder
"Is something really there?"
So the next time you go to sit in a chair,
make sure a ghost is not already there
because spirits are people too,
and are fragile just like me and you.

"If you knew that your life was merely a phase or short, short segment of your entire existence, how would you live? Knowing nothing 'real' was at risk, what would you do? You'd live a gigantic, bold, fun, dazzling life. You know you would. That's what the ghosts want us to do - all the exciting things they no longer can.

The Importance of Art

It's the link between soul and stationary, mind and materials. Art is an essential element of life.  It is used to communicate without the use of words. What exactly is art? Art is the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power. Art can be manipulated to showcase to the world who you are, and what you stand for. Your work of art is a fingerprint that touches and inspires the people who view it. Art is additionally capable of being utilized to vent and convey your feelings. It can be a way to oppose something without using physical conflict. It is imperative to use art to release your anger or control your sorrow. When I am upset, painting or drawing is an ideal way to keep my mind off things and relax. The best thing about art- in my opinion- is that it makes you feel free. The possibilities are endless, and anything is possible in the artistic world. Art provokes thoughts and theories. Anyone can draw; there is no such thing as a bad piece of art. People who don't explore their artistic side are only using part of their brain. Art is inspirational; art is a way of life. If art is not part of your life, you need to change that!

Forever Never Alone

I feel that the term "forever alone" is overused. I admittedly use the term on occasion, but I try not to. I mean, no one is truly alone. The probability of someone being alone is immensely slim; everyone has someone who has you in their thoughts, who feels privileged to have met you. There are about 6,973,738,433 people in the world. Someone is bound to show you some concern.

If you feel you are "forever alone", it's probably your fault. You need to learn how to let people in, and at least try to have an optimistic view on life. Why be negative when you can be positive? Even if the world seems to be caving in on you, just remember that there will always be that one friend who, like me, takes time to try to help and is there to panic with you when life gets a little hectic.

Sometimes I apply the term to myself. Sometimes I keep myself company. I enjoy the sound of silence, if that makes sense. You, too, could master the art of being alone if you find something you really enjoy doing (painting, writing, etc.). That is the only thing necessary to create a happy life. You don't exactly need friends, but you shouldn't completely shut everything out. If you are currently reading this blog by yourself, it's never too late to step out of that life of solitude.

I am trying to become a self-proclaimed optimist but- let's be honest- life is rough and makes it as hard as possible to stay positive. When I'm feeling sorrowful, I try to remember that somewhere, there is someone going through the exact same thing or possibly something even worse. Some people feel so depressed that they can't believe that. The universe is infinite. The chance that the universe goes on and on without there being a repetition of certain galaxy structures or planets is minuscule. Somewhere out there, there is another version of you that is going through the same timeline. That thought comforts me, and favorably will comfort you too (and hopefully even "the other me").

Remember: it is your job to make life the best it can be. Rest if needed, but just don't give up on anything! You can never know how close you are to achieving a goal, and a single action can change everything. And if you feel you are hopelessly "forever alone", keep in mind there is one in this world for everyone. Keep on keeping on! -Lindsay

Imagination 101

You probably don't believe imagination is important. Well, you're wrong. I am going to change your skeptical little mind with the following.
The first question that needs to be answered is: "why is imagination necessary?". The answers to that question are all around us. The products of creativity make up the components of everyday life, whether you realize it or not. Imagination lets us realize our full potential while improving our lifestyle. Your next question might be: "what is imagination exactly?". Imagination is the faculty or action of forming new ideas, or images or concepts of external objects not present to the senses. Of course, that's the dictionary's definition. Imagination is something different to everyone. Imagination can be used to get away from it all; to help you relax and picture what the world would be like if there was more emphasis on progress and creativity. Imagination is the world's greatest tool, utilized by the greatest minds. It was focused on by respected people like John Lennon, Albert Einstein, Edgar Allen Poe, and many other significant people. Where would this world be without imagination? Think about that for a bit. Still think it's not important? "No."? That's what I thought.
Some people have trouble being imaginative and inventive. That's what I'm here for. Here are some tips to aid you in becoming a visionary:
  • Be inquisitive- ask and learn daily. *The more you know, the better.
  • Create a journal- fill it with as many things as possible: thoughts, things learned, questions, doodles.
  • Observe- can't emphasize this enough. This may sound weird, but watch people's behavior and expressions. Listen more. *Read about psychology.
  • Start drawing/painting- explore your artsy side. *Keep practicing; your art will get better and better. There is no right or wrong way to sketch.
  • Pretend- wake up and try to look at things from a different perspective. Pretend to be someone/something else. Imagine different or alternate scenarios. *Be as child-like as possible.
  • Take walks- not only is this good for your physical health; it is good for your mental health. Look around. *Be inspired by what you see daily.
  • Meditate- or at least ponder and think a lot. Daydreaming is not a waste of time! Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
  • Listen to music- all types. *Explore your musical side. Experiment with different instruments.
Use these notes of mine all of the time to create a happy and healthy life full of imagination and inquiry.
Imagination is the seams that hold life together. It makes the world a more suitable place to inhabit. Without it, we are incomplete. -Lindsay
